Georgia Bigfoot Tracker Hoax

Of all the cryptozoology related hoaxes out there, none were as outrageous or news worthy as this.  This story starts in the summer of 2008 when  Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer of Georgia claim they finally found Bigfoot and put the frozen body in a cooler.

How they managed to fit an 7-foot-7-inch creature inside a cooler should have been a dead giveaway, but low quality pictures were soon released after.  With the help of Tom Biscardi, the Georgia men quickly gained media attention as they promised DNA proof of their find. A California Bigfoot tracker then bought the rubber suit (oops, I mean Bigfoot body) for 50,000 dollars and a press conference was held to unveil the expensive Halloween costume to the world.

Of course when the buyer finally realizes the Bigfoot body is nothing more than hairy waste of money, he then sues the hoaxers (one of which is a cop).  Whitton, 28, a Clayton County police officer for six years, was fired Tuesday after news of the hoax spread. Dyer, 31, is a former Clayton County corrections officer.  Though, according to their site (bigfoottracker.com), the pair are not averse to making money off their amusement. For $500, you can join them for a Bigfoot expedition. They also sell Sasquatch-related T-shirts and caps
